What Is Driving Down Prices?
Are driving lessons getting cheap? I say this as when I took my driving test, 12 or 13 years ago, I am sure that driving lessons cost somewhere in the region of £13! Now I am seeing similar prices all over the place! Here are a few examples. Driving lessons from £10 www.1stclassdriving.co.uk and driving lessons from £10.50 with the AA Driving School!
What is going on? Surely the prices should be going up, in line with everything else. Sure, some products will get cheaper as they become mass produced, such as a DVD player, but when it comes to regular services such as driving instructors or plumbers, the prices should be going up - at least little by little?
The first thing that may be worth noting is that these prices are not necessarily what they seem at first. These prices can often be a 'tempter' to get you through the door to sample the service, in the hope that when you have, you will be happy to pay the higher price. I believe that in both of the examples above, the normal price of driving lessons charges by the driving school is somewhere in the region of twice the price quoted above. That said, I suspect that even the higher prices are not quite as much as would be charged if prices went up in line with the rest of what society charges.
So are things so desperate for driving instructors as to drop their prices so much to get people on seats? Well it certainly looks that way! There are so called offers everywhere, in newspapers, magazines, websites - even down the side of some driving schools cars! Has supply outstripped demand and therefore driver trainers are having to undercut each other to keep in business? I certainly looks that way.
The situation is a shame really, as I personally believe that only the customers really suffer (apart from the obvious loss for instructors) in the long term. Saving money on the same product somewhere else is generally a good idea, but what often happens it that in the search for a cheaper PRICE, you get a cheaper PRODUCT! I believe that this is also true in the service industry. Where companies (in this case driving instructors) lower their prices, they have to work more to make the same money, and therefore are likely to be more tired for example than they would be and potentially not providing quite as good a service as they could be.
This is just an opinion if course - but I would guess that it is a fairly accurate one!
